About the SJFL 50 Awards:
As Chairman of the Shropshire Junior Football League, it’s my privilege to welcome you to the celebration evening to mark 50 years of the league providing grassroots football across the county. Shrewsbury and District Sunday Junior Football League was established for the 1973/74 and is the founding league for junior football in Shropshire and 25 teams in 3 divisions at U13, U14 and U15 made up the then competition.
In 1982 the league changes name to Shropshire County Sunday Junior Football League before becoming the Shropshire Junior Football League in 2006. Today 229 teams across 28 divisions from U7-U16s, plus 61 futsal teams and 2981 players registered forms the competition. Futsal Festival is the ONLY event that has been running continuously since 2009 and by any league affiliated to THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION.
As leagues grow and develop so does the demand for volunteers at club and league level to manage and facilitate the competition. We are here tonight to recognise those volunteers, clubs and people who make a real difference to grassroots football. Dedicating time and commitment on a voluntary basis for the benefit of so many to play and enjoy football at whatever level and formats of the game.
“Ability is nothing without opportunity”.
