Peter Wilkinson
In March 2024, SJFL received the sad news of the passing of Peter Wilkinson a stalwart in junior football. Peter Wilkinson was one of the founder members of Shrewsbury Up and Comers and served them as manager, secretary, treasurer and president. Similarly he served Shropshire Junior Football League as secretary, treasurer, chairman and president and became a life member when he stood down.
Peter was honoured for his service to football by Shropshire Football Association and grassroots football is better placed today because of Peter Wilkinson whose dedication and support for junior football never diminished.
In May 2024, the inaugural Peter Wilkinson Memorial Cup was held, marking its debut as part of the SJFL calendar. The first competition took place at Shrewsbury Sports Village, celebrating Peter’s enduring legacy and his significant contributions to junior football.
